About Zantac Cases

Did Zantac Cause Your Cancer?

People who have developed cancer after the use of ranitidine medications like Zantac, may have viable legal claims. Family members of those who have passed away from cancer after such use may have claims too.

The FDA has recalled Zantac as it has been linked to cancer, birth defects, and even death. Zantac, generically known as ranitidine, is a popular antacid medication that has been on the market since the early 1980s. People commonly use Zantac to treat heart burn, indigestion, gastrointestinal disorders, and a host of other stomach and throat issues.

The FDA has warned that Zantac may be contaminated with a cancer-causing agent known as, NDMA (N-nitrosodimethylamine). NDMA is an industrial chemical normally used in petroleum-based industrial products in addition to, gasoline and rocket fuel. NDMA is a known human carcinogen and levels in Zantac may be 3,000 to 26,000 times higher than legally allowed levels set by the FDA.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer after taking Zantac, you may be eligible for compensation by filing a Zantac lawsuit.

What is Zantac?

Chemically known as ranitidine hydrochloride, Zantac (ranitidine) belongs to a class of drugs called histamine H2-receptor antagonists (or H2 blockers), which decrease the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

Zantac is a very popular antacid medication that has been on the market since the early 1980s. Zantac is available over the counter (Zantac OTC) and by prescription. People commonly use Zantac for acid reflux, heartburn, and a host of other stomach, throat, and gastrointestinal issues. Others use Zantac for allergies to supplement their treatment regimen.

Zantac dosage varies between 75 and 150 mg tablets, though some patients take a once daily Zantac 300 mg dosage.

The first class action lawsuit was filed in California arguing both Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals deceived customers by hiding the NDMA presence in ranitidine, and that both companies "knew or had a reason to know the dangers consumers were exposed to." As various individual lawsuits have been filed in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Florida, as well as some nationwide class actions in New Jersey and Connecticut, many stores have voluntarily pulled Zantac off their shelves. Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid have all halted its distribution.

Should you file a Zantac claim?

If you, a loved one, or a friend has been affected, now is the time to act, as cases such as these are just being filed. Anyone that has been consuming Zantac and developed liver cancer, kidney cancer, gastric cancer or colorectal cancer should consider filing a lawsuit to receive compensation. Financial compensation may be awarded to cover medical expenses, lost wages, loss of diminished earning capacity, and physical pain and suffering. There is a short statute of limitations to file suit.
